US Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) number one priority is combating the threat of terrorism. The Customs and Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) is the CBP initiative that partners with members of the trade community to ensure the integrity of their security practices and communicate and verify the security guidelines of the business partners within their supply chain.
Businesses apply to CBP for C-TPAT certification. In joining C-TPAT, companies sign an agreement to work with CBP to protect the supply chain, identify security gaps and implement specific security measures and best practices. Additionally, C-TPAT partners provide CBP with a security profile outlining the specific security measures the company has in place. CBP will ensure that existing and new CTPAT partners fulfill their commitments by reviewing their profiles and verifying that agreed security measures have been implemented.
